Your First Visit to The Acupuncture Clinic

It is important to have eaten a meal before your visits; for example, if you have a morning appointment, please eat some breakfast.  If it is an afternoon appointment, eat lunch.  If it is a late afternoon visit, then have a light snack before arrival. This way, you will be in a good “Qi” place for treatment.  An analogy is this: when you draw funds from your bank account, there is money to cover.  If not, you become overdrawn, which is a problem.  When you recieve acupuncture, I am moving your Qi, and if there is not enough present, you will feel not good, or dizzy, or have a headache.  Food provides the Qi you need to do activities and recieve treatments.

If you are too ill to eat, I can adjust for this.  For the average person who is able to eat, food is a good preparation.  I recommend reasonable amounts. Overeating is never recommended; neither is heavy exercise before or after a treatment.

Another way to prepare for your first visit is to wear or bring loose comfortable clothing.  Pantyhose must be removed, and shoes and stockings are usually removed during treatment as well.  It is rare that people disrobe, as I am able to access the treatment sites nicely by adjusting trousers and sleeves.  Occassionally I use sites on the back, hips, face or abdomen.

It is important to both you and me that you are comfortable and the temperature is appropriate.  That is why I use an electric table warmer and drapes to prevent chills.  By directing me to your needs, I can ensure a safe and relaxing experience for you!

Some information I will need at the first visit is:

  1. Basic demographic information.
  2. Consent for treatment.
  3. Awareness of your HIPPA rights (Privacy of Information).
  4. Insurance information, or agreement for payment options.

If you have further questions or concerns, please let us know. Terry is happy to answer any accounting/billing questions, and I am available for treatment concerns.
